Overview

You have clients who are experiencing pelvic symptoms such as incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and lumbopelvic pain. Maybe you’ve made some progress in a traditional approach of pelvic floor muscle training, low-intensity ‘core’ training and exercise restrictions, but your active and athletic clients want to lift their grandkids, run races, play sport and lift weights. How do you take them from itty bitty exercise up to the activities that make them feel strong, capable, adaptable and resilient? Is that even safe for them to do?

There are so many conflicting viewpoints about ‘mandatory’ core progression pathways and exercise restrictions for women who have pelvic health conditions. How many are supported by research? How many enable women to meet World Health Organization recommendations for cardio and strength training for health maintenance? How many actually leave our clients feeling broken and defeated, despite our guidance coming from a well-meaning place?

Join Antony Lo, Orthopedic and external Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and international educator, in this 10 hour online course that dives into the key concepts from his popular 20-hour ‘The Female Athlete Level 1’ course.

The Female Athlete - LITE will address key concept in treating female athletes so that you can confidently support your clients back to the higher level activity and sports that make them feel alive!

Learning objectives

In this course, Antony will guide you through a journey of how to:

  • identify and investigate the beliefs and frameworks you currently use to treat clients with orthopedic and pelvic health concerns.
  • recognize and critique the beliefs and frameworks you currently have around movement quality.
  • differentiate between characteristics of a patriarchal/matriarchal care model versus patient empowering care model.
  • describe and implement interpersonal communication strategies that promote effective behaviour change with clients
  • question clinical beliefs and client perspectives through movement experiments and research review
  • recognize the power of creating a personal experience by witnessing changes through personal experiences, and learning from the experiences of others
  • understand and evaluate a new set of principles that you can integrate into your practice immediately and apply across a variety of conditions throughout the body
  • execute an external pelvic floor examination and understand the implications of these findings in relation to pelvic health symptoms and the intraabdominal pressure system
  • recognize how to move clients beyond low-intensity exercises with muscle-specific cuing through to high intensity exercises like impact loading through jumping and heavy lifting through deadlifting
  • understand and apply the concepts of: do something different, test retest, variability is key, farmhouse analogy and the pyramid of performance
  • analyze a client presenting with pelvic floor conditions
  • evaluate a client’s existing movement preferences and
  • create an appropriate plan of action for the client considerate of their goals

What Practitioners Are Saying

"The Female Athlete - Lite course is a powerful experience. You will be given ways to expand your knowledge for helping people through a more personal approach.  I really enjoyed it" - Melanie Connell, Physical Therapist, @remedyoc

I would highly recommend this to any FitPro, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, anybody really that works with movement, that wants to expand their paradigm of assessment and rehabilitation, gain curiosity, compassion, and creativity in their practice. I really saw advantageous outcomes of how he approaches athletic females, or really his paradigm can be applied to anybody with persistent pain or any type of orthopedic condition, to empower the client and gently and encourage the clients to step outside their comfort zone in a way that feels good for them.” - Robyn Murray, Orthopedic and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, @mindful_physio_mom @thevillagephysioandco
