Overview
The human brain requires consistent blood flow to get oxygen and nutrients, especially during exercise.
After a stroke, this blood flow regulation is often impaired, leading to risks like reduced cognitive function and recurrent strokes.
Exercise training, a key and recommended aspect of stroke rehabilitation offers multiple health benefits for individuals post-stroke. It improves cardiorespiratory fitness and mitigates risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases.
Yet, there's a significant gap in our knowledge about how aerobic exercise impacts the cerebrovasculature after stroke.

Presenter: Kevin Moncion, MSc Kin, MSc PT and PhD (c)
Kevin Moncion is a physiotherapist and a final year PhD candidate in Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University under the supervision of Dr. Ada Tang. His research is focused on the effects of exercise on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health outcomes in individuals post-stroke. Kevin is leading a multi-site randomized controlled trial exploring high-intensity interval training in stroke rehabilitation.
